A car rally, a photo rally, an automobile show, and an art exhibition: “Art and the Automobile” will showcase them all in the bucolic Eastern Townships of Quebec. The proceedings will begin on Thursday, October 2, and continue through Sunday, October 5, 2008. The headquarters for this unique cultural event will be the Davis-Kell Farm in Ogden.
If you have a classic or contemporary car and would like to drive on winding country roads when the fall foliage is at its peak, you may want to register for the Rallye du Chemin des Cantons, a car rally on the historic Townships Trail.
If you are an avid photographer and would like to explore the Townships countryside and photograph a wonderful variety of subjects, you may want to register for the photo rally. Photo rally participants will screen and discuss their work with a team of professionals headed by Californian Jesse Alexander, a legendary racecar photographer and the author of Driven, Forty Years of Motorsport Photography, and Porsche Moments.
If you are looking for a day’s outing, you may want to drop in on the automobile show. It will highlight past and present-day cars of distinctive styling, ranging from Henry Seth Taylor’s 1867 steam buggy—Canada’s first automobile—to an exciting new Callaway supercar.
You may also want to visit the art exhibition, which will include motorsports images by Jesse Alexander and work by four other award-winning artists: Ontario glass sculptor Stephen Brathwaite; Montreal-based painter and poster artist Alain Levesque; and Townships photographers Louise Abbott and Niels Jensen.
Everyone is welcome to attend the automobile show and art exhibition on Saturday, October 4, and Sunday, October 5. Part of the daily admission fee ($10) will be donated to Child Haven; a regional food bank; and local historical societies. The car rally and photo rally will be open to registrants only.
